Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

Moji Notebook is a Japanese handwriting and vocabulary-learning application developed and operated by Denys Bielov (“we”, “us” or “our”). This Privacy Policy applies to the Moji Notebook Android application.

Moji Notebook does not require an account, contain advertising or sell personal information. We do not use personal information for advertising or profiling.

2. Information stored on your device

Moji Notebook stores the following information locally:

• Learning progress, review dates, intervals, mistakes and hint usage.
• App settings and preferences.
• Image ratings, regeneration flags and written image-review notes.
• Handwritten stroke coordinates and timing while recognising an answer.
• Feedback reports that you choose to save.
• Temporary screenshots and diagnostics prepared for feedback reports.

This information provides practice, remembers your preferences, schedules reviews, recognises written characters and supports troubleshooting. We do not operate a server that receives or synchronises your learning history.

3. Handwriting recognition and Google ML Kit

Moji Notebook uses Google ML Kit Digital Ink Recognition. The strokes you draw and the recognition results are processed on your device. Google states that ML Kit does not send feature input data or recognition output to Google servers.

ML Kit may send operational metrics to Google, including:

• Device manufacturer, model, operating-system version and hardware capabilities.
• App package name and version.
• Device or per-installation identifiers.
• Performance, latency, API configuration and feature-version information.
• Input and output sizes, model events, configured language and error codes.

Google uses this information for diagnostics, usage measurement, maintenance, abuse prevention and improvement of ML Kit. Google states that it encrypts this information in transit and does not transfer it to third parties.

The Japanese recognition model must first be downloaded from Google. Recognition can then work offline, although ML Kit may occasionally contact Google for updates and operational purposes.

4. Context examples from Tatoeba

When you open a word-detail page, Moji Notebook may request example sentences from the Tatoeba API. The request sends the selected Japanese word and normal connection information needed to serve the request, such as your IP address, to Tatoeba.

We do not send your learning history, handwriting, feedback reports or identity to Tatoeba. Handwriting practice continues to work without context examples.

Tatoeba handles information under its own Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

5. Optional feedback and exported reports

When you activate the in-app feedback tool, Moji Notebook prepares a screenshot of the current app screen together with the current vocabulary context, app version, device and operating-system details, display information, locale, time zone, storage and memory information, device uptime, and recent app warnings or errors.

This information is prepared locally. You can inspect it before saving or sharing a report. It leaves your device only when you choose “Save & share” and select a destination through the Android share sheet. The destination you choose handles the report under its own privacy policy.

Image-review ratings and notes are also stored locally. Exporting them creates a JSON file that is sent only to the destination you select.

If you send feedback directly to us, we use it only to investigate problems, respond to feedback, improve Moji Notebook and maintain security.

6. Information we do not collect

Moji Notebook does not collect:

• Precise location, contacts, messages or call information.
• Camera images, photo-library contents or microphone recordings.
• Financial, payment or health information.
• Advertising identifiers for advertising purposes.

Pronunciation audio is supplied with the app. Moji Notebook does not record audio. Haptic feedback uses device vibration and does not collect information.

7. How information is shared

Limited information may be provided to:

• Google through ML Kit for model delivery, diagnostics and usage metrics.
• Tatoeba when context examples are requested.
• A destination you deliberately select through the Android share sheet.
• Authorities where disclosure is required by applicable law.

We do not sell information or share it with advertising networks or data brokers.

8. Retention and deletion

Learning progress, settings, reviews and saved reports remain on your device until you clear Moji Notebook’s storage in Android settings or uninstall the app. Temporary cache files may be removed automatically by Android.

Information shared through another app is retained according to that app’s policy. Feedback sent directly to us is kept only as long as reasonably necessary to investigate the report, improve the app, meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. It is then deleted or anonymised.

To request deletion of feedback sent directly to us, use the contact address below and include the report date or identifier when possible. Moji Notebook has no online account or server-side learning profile to delete.

9. Security and international processing

Local information is protected by Android’s application sandbox and your device’s security controls. Requests to Google and Tatoeba use encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the information handled by the app.

Google, Tatoeba and user-selected sharing services may process information in countries other than your country of residence under their respective policies and applicable safeguards.

10. Children’s privacy

Moji Notebook is a general-audience learning application. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us in a feedback report, contact us so it can be deleted.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Moji Notebook, its services or applicable requirements change. The revised policy will display a new effective date. We will communicate material changes through the app or store listing where appropriate.
